A change cannot be just noted. To achieve change, it is crucial to reflect on it, then expand on the reflection and implement it into the body of cultural practice. Contemplating independent scenes should be enriched by experiences, particularly experiences gained during the past two pandemic years. What is the status of (independent) artists and other workers in our cultural space? Didn’t the past two years prove in particular that, face to face social changes with an impact on the entire society, we must seek common solutions that are not focused exclusively on workers employed at institutions nor only on those who identify themselves with the independent scene? What are the reasons behind this identification? Are we able to deal with limitations and constraints brought upon us by the present time? Is our cultural practice evolving in a direction that will not burden our future?
Redefining the Practices section of the 2022 edition will explore the following themes:
Independent scene is often identified in opposition to the segment of funded (permanent) institutions. In Ne-závislá spojení, we will examine ways to overcome this polarisation and discuss what could permanent institutions offer to the independent scene.
